Tim: My high school years involved a variety vehicles but this one is pretty memorable. I was this car, this color,convertible....It was the 1963 Indi Pace Car Limited Edition.It had a huge engine,and I heard it could go really fast,but of course I had no first hand knowledge of that.

Tim: My love of the Mustang resulted in the sale of the Dart sometime before the summer of my freshman year and resulted in the purchase of a dark blue 1965 Mustang that looked a lot like this one.

Tim: This is the car that replaced my first Mustang.I did succeed in putting some money in the bank and going out to shop for this.My most vivid memory of this car was ...at some point in my freshman year of college,I cleaned the car inside and out and found a significant stash of liquor.....more than enough to get me in trouble at school....or at home. It included a number of beverages which I was not familiar with at that point in my life.

Tim: This is the car I bought when I traded in the aforementioned graduation gift. A red on red 1965 Mustang . Do you wonder why I might have wanted to trade up?   I never doubted for a minute that Dad understood. I worked at Helen's Fine Foods all summer... And ended up spending much of that on new shocks and Ball joints for it courtesy of the Yankee garage up on Leonard. I succumbed to the lure of profit  and sold it during my Freshman year at Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College.

Tim: The car I drove in my last year at Central High in1970, was a dark brown 1965 Plymouth Fury 1, which had spent the best years of its life as a taxi.It was safe and reliable and could conveniently if not comfortably transport 6 people .Dad and Mom gave me the car for my graduation present. The first thing I did was have Dad working on a deal to trade it in on something more suitable.As I recall, this was one of the times in my life that I disappointed my Mom....she thought this showed a real lack of gratitude for a gift given and received.

Tim: This is the coolest car I never owned; I found a n old bug eyed Sprite at a boneyard in Spring Lake for 125 dollars. Dad said No. Something about I didn't have the skills to fix it up, or the budget to keep it running.  We learn some lessons in life without making all the mistakes...sometimes you just have to listen.

Memories:

Tim: The first car  I paid for was the 1964 Renault Dauphine similar to the picture shown. It cost 15 dollars even. Dad fixed it up as I recall and painted it Gray with a spray bomb. He drove it back and forth to the station. I called it mine,as I remember, but he drove it. When the starter went out,being  practical as always,Dad pressed into service a feature still built into rear engine European cars in the 60's...the hand crank starter.  As I recall,this car met an untimely end when it was rear ended on Leonard Street hill on his way home from work.  The insurance company settled a claim,totaling out the car for 50.00. This was considered a profitable operation.  The facts of the above story is true to the best of my recollection ...and subject to edit by anyone in the family with more accurate recall than I have at this age.  TC
